“星加坡”几时成了“新加坡”？

我们从旧报纸旧刊物上可以看到从前”新加坡“(Singapore) 还有其他几种写法，比如星嘉坡、新嘉坡、星加坡或星架坡等等。我们是何时才统一使用“新加坡”的呢？

那是在独立后，1967年政府成立统一街名翻译委员会，1970年2月，委员会发表地名、街名的统一报告， 1972年4月，我们的政府部门和法定机构的统一译名也出台，因此， 1972年4月25日，“新加坡”正式成为国家的华文译名。

二戰時日軍在攻佔新加坡後，日本軍方拍攝了一部對中國(中華民國)大陸佔領區宣傳”新加坡淪陷”的華語影片，影片中就出現了”新加坡”這三個漢字，可見”新加坡”並不是新加坡獨立後才出現的譯名，早在二次大戰前就有人在使用了！
